Matthew Truch
So, you actually want to learn more about me, eh? Well, ok. Fine.
I was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the late seventies (read 1979). Some of you will be saying why did he specify Canada, cause like duh, and others will be going, Calgary....hmmm, never heard of it. Most of my extended family still lives in Cow Town, although a few, like me, have strayed. While in Calgary I lived in Lake Bonavista, a pretty nice neighborhood with a lake. Swimming and the beach in the summer, ice skating in the winter. Heck, they even drove the Zamboni out on the lake. Schooling started with the Childrens Learning Centre (a pre school), moved on to Lake Bonavista Elementary (K-3), up through Saint Boniface Elementary (3-6), and finally to Saint Bonaventure Junior High (7-8). I don't keep in touch with too many of my "Calgary" friends anymore, but the ones I do are special. Before any bad jokes are made, I will move on.
November 1991 brought much change, as I was magically whisked away (ok, we drove) to Alaska, specifically Anchorage. I spent half a year at J. Mears Junior High, and all of high school at A. J. Dimond High School. No, that's not a typo, it's a name, not the jem. High school meant many things, not just schoolwork (yeah, right), but also Swimming (Varsity Letter), a few Science Fairs (we did pretty good), and the OUCCDHS. I keep in touch with a good number of people, and as they were as dorky as I, most of them have webpages too.
But graduating from High School led to college. Enter Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio. No, even though it has "Reserve" in the name, it has nothing to do with the military. Besides earning a BS (cum laude) in physics, I was treasurer and president of the Commuter Club, treasurer of the Physics and Astronomy Club, and Treasurer of "Friends of the Ball Machine." But don't let these titles fool you, they were merely ploys to get money. What did I do with the money? Well, we, the Phat Physics Phools (my appartment mates), thew parties, including, but not limited to, "Corn Palace," "National Spumoni Day," "REEB," and "Coup de Grace." Even some professors got toasted at our place! Check out my CWRU physics page to see what physics related things I did at CWRU.
For whatever reason, this school thing seemed to be working for me, so I headed over to Providence, Rhode Island, to attend Brown University as a physics) grad student. My first year I was a TA (Teaching Assistant). The first semester I did PH 5/7 labs (intoductary physics labs) and second semester I did PH 156: Modern Physics Laboratory. Then I worked for Prof. Tucker on the BLAST project. Check out my Brown physics page for more details. I earned by Ph.D. in April 2007. That makes me the Evil Dr. Truch.
While at Brown, I married Jenny Truch (née Patterson). If you actually check that link, you'll realize that Jenny and I have known each other forever. Forever.
Now I'm at the University of Pennsylvania, working as a postdoc for Prof. Mark Devlin. Soon I'll make a Penn physics page (akin to the CWRU and Brown ones). Check back, eh.
Of course, as time progresses, I will probably add to this page. It is a biography, and should be kept up to date. Ohh yeah, if there are any glaring errors, let me know. Sometimes I just don't remember my own life.
